Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is an internationally renowned program for young people around the world to build skills to equip them for life and work. Available to any student from 13 years and 9 months, this non-competitive scheme encourages students to take on new challenges for themselves.

In each of the three levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold – students are required to complete the four components of service, physical activity, skills and expedition. In addition, students who wish to achieve the Gold level are required to complete a residential project to broaden participants’ horizons through involvement with others in setting away from their usual residence.  At Northholm, an outdoor education specialist coordinates the scheme and provides students with the opportunity to complete the expeditions in canoeing.
