Through our comprehensive curriculum and diverse co-curricular opportunities, Northholm Grammar offers a wide range of opportunities for students to explore their interests and develop their passions, motivating and challenging each student to fulfill their personal best.
The HSC Major Works Night of Excellence took place on the evening of Monday 19 August, marking an opportunity for Year 12 students to present and display their final HSC Major Works projects across the subjects of Drama, Design and Technology, Music and Visual Arts. Leading up to the exhibition-style showcase, students spent countless hours across Terms 1 to 3, working with various mediums in preparation to present their works and performances to the wider Northholm community consisting of their family and friends, current Northholm students and teaching staff.
In Drama, students presented individual and complex monologues, in addition to collaborating in Group Performance pieces titled Alice in Visceraland and The Humanity, Ethics, Loyalty and Life Saving Society. Each highly creative and imaginative performance involved extensive brainstorming, improvisation and iteration, resulting in two standout Group Performances which evolved from countless hours of script writing and collaborative development.
Across Design and Technology, students addressed real-world issues, with a collective focus on environmental sustainability, through the creation of innovative products and systems designed as solutions to such issues. Their ‘Design Folios’ [portfolios] documented each stage of their design process from planning and research of current market trends to the creation of their projects. Some standout projects this year included sustainable and affordable housing designs, recycled and repurposed furniture and an aquaponics system.
Five Music students demonstrated exceptional talent in their solo performances, showing their dedication to mastering the technical aspects of their instruments. Under the guidance and support of our Coordinator of Co-Curricular Music, Mr David Stratton and external professional musicians, these students harnessed their musical abilities, delivering emotive and technical original pieces that delighted their audience.
With equal talent, the Year 12 Visual Arts students showcased their immerse creativity and artistic skills, using various expressive art forms and mediums, including portraits, pottery and sculptures and collages, to implore viewers to reconsider the key themes addressed in their pieces.
The showcase was a moment of pride, reflection and immense satisfaction for our Year 12 students and we are incredibly proud of their work, dedication and commitment to their craft in what was truly a night of excellence and creative expression. We wish them best of luck with their final Major Works HSC mark and we look forward to seeing what these talented individuals will achieve in the future!
