Back to the 80s

At Northholm Grammar, the Performing Arts plays a vital role in fostering creativity, confidence and collaboration among students and their peers. Through our comprehensive curriculum and diverse co-curricular opportunities, we ensure students thrive and flourish both at school and beyond.

Last month, Northholm was proud to produce the musical extravaganza Back to the 80s with a cast of over 40 Secondary Years students from Years 7 to 11, as well as a student-led band and a student-led crew. The production was directed by our Head of Performing Arts, Ms Sylvia Morris, musically directed by our Coordinator of Co-Curricular Music, Mr David Stratton, and Music Teacher, Mr Daniel Bishop, and choreographed and production managed by Deputy Principal, Andrea van de Bol.

The opening matinee performance took place at The Lincoln Centre on Wednesday 19 June, with the audience predominantly being students and teachers from Northholm. The wider Northholm community, including friends and family of those performing, were invited to the production on Thursday 20, Friday 21 and Saturday 22 June.

This show had the audience dancing in their seats and singing along to all of the greatest hits of the 80s including Video Killed the Radio StarTotal Eclipse of the HeartLove ShackFootlooseKids in AmericaWake Me Up Before you Go Go and The Time of My Life. With a Star Wars-inspired dream sequence and a final showdown between the lead cast, aack to the 80s was a non-stop collection of music, movie and TV easter eggs for all ages.

The production was a spectacular success and the dedication and passion from our students was evident in every performance.  It was amazing to see our students receive a well-deserved full house standing ovation on the final performance evening. It is a testament to the power of Performing Arts at Northholm and its positive impact in developing well-rounded young men and women.

The production was a memorable experience for students, not only for the on-stage experience, but also for connections made and new friendships forged.

Congratulations to all involved in this amazing production!
