A love of learning through play, inquiry and a hands-on approach is at the heart of our Early Years (Kindergarten to Year 2) at Northholm Grammar. From their first day, your child is welcomed into a community where individuality shines, dreams are encouraged and their unique character is nurtured.
We ensure learning for our youngest students is individualised, purposeful and meaningful. Teachers work closely with parents to ensure that the transition into these first formal years is seamless and supportive for both student and parent. Through our Buddy Program, in which a Kindergarten student is partnered with a Year 6 student, students learn to build connection in a range of settings and activities.
Staff follow a teaching model where students are first shown a skill or strategy, then the teacher guides them to practice it until they can independently perform the skill. We pursue engaging and energetic ways to develop solid foundational skills in reading, writing and mathematics. Learning in English consists of daily reading, writing, speaking and listening techniques. Mathematics involves warm-up games to activate earlier learning in fun and active ways, followed by teaching of mathematical concepts that relate to real life contexts.

In addition to creating a solid foundation, Northholm also gives students the opportunity to explore the talents and interests that foster curiosity and bring them joy.
Sport promotes a positive attitude in physical fitness and under the guidance from the Head of Sport and Coaching, our young students will experience games and fun activities on our green and spacious outdoor sporting ground as part of their sports lessons.
Northholm’s young artists, musicians, actors and dancers develop their creativity through Music, Drama and Visual Arts. From a young age, our early learners are taught in the Creative and Performing Art subjects by specialist teacher who are experts in their field.
Opportunities for students to explore their interests extend beyond the curriculum. Our young students have the opportunity to be part of many different interest clubs where they can interact with students across other year groups and forger new and lasting friendships, through co-curricular clubs.
Our idyllic campus is a safe place, a lively and stimulating space for learning within a calming natural environment. Our young students not only flourish in this environment, but are better able to maintain focus and develop their love of learning both in and out of the classroom.
Our farm space also allows our students close proximity to our farm animals providing many opportunities to develop an interest in the natural environment.
Early Years students enjoy the hands-on experiences in our Sensory Garden and helping in the care of our farm animals. Information Technology has been integrated into classroom teaching so that students are gently introduced to the ways that technology can enhance learning.
After School Care is available for Kindergarten to Year 6 students.
