Driven by a deep belief that every student is capable of successful learning, Northholm Grammar is committed to a philosophy of Learning through Scholarship by challenging our students with high academic standards, inspiring teaching, personalised learning and purposeful curriculum.
In order to instil the determination and character to succeed in our students, they are encouraged to serve others, to find purpose and to aim for their personal best. Students are challenged and encouraged to develop a love of learning that will help them harness the intellectual habits that will allow them to be confident learners.
Scholarship is about encouraging intellectual rigour, independent thinking and valuing academic study and achievement. A culture of scholarship values each student individually and focuses on creating the ideal learning environment so that they can excel and achieve their full potential.
Our holistic philosophy and welcoming community enables teachers to form strong, meaningful relationships with our students. In creating a safe, respectful and tolerant environment, we inspire students to engage in and take personal responsibility for their learning. The personalised approach we provide enables our teachers to help students identify realistic goals for their academic, social and spiritual development.
Teachers pride themselves on their knowledge of each student’s individual needs and utilise their diverse learning experiences to accommodate the different learning styles. Ongoing and regular communication is key to our approach. Tutors and class teachers meet regularly with their students to discuss their progress and then communicate successes and challenges with parents.
The All-through School Framework, delivered alongside a philosophy of academic intentionality with pastoral attentiveness, is designed to develop student skills so they can seamlessly transition through all the stages from Kindergarten to Year 12. In addition to learning the core capabilities and techniques required in a high-performance school culture, Primary Years students are able to forge long-term relationships with peers and staff and establish routines that they bring with them into the Secondary Years. As they move through the stages (Kindergarten to Year 2, Years 3 to 6, Years 7 to 10 and Years 11 and 12), the benefits of a consistent educational ethos and continuous progress tracking supports our students’ personalised learning journeys in a safe and familiar environment all through their schooling.
We know there are many schools to choose from. It takes time and commitment to understand a school’s true value. Strong academics lie at the heart of a Northholm education, but a happy school experience where the child is understood and valued is just as important in contributing to our students’ development. Parents of Northholm Grammar students don’t have to choose between an academically rigorous education and their child’s emotional and social wellbeing.
