At Northholm Grammar, yearly camps are an important part of school life for students in Year 6 to Year 10 as part of the Outdoor Education program. While developing confidence and competence in the outdoors, these experiences also give students the opportunity to forge new friendships, gain valuable insights into their own skills and test their resilience.
The Year 7 Camp, held in Term 1, was part of our comprehensive orientation program for Year 7s. Taking place on the beautiful shores of Lake Macquarie and led by the Heads of Houses, the three-day camp included a range of activities designed to give them a head-start in meeting the challenges they will face as Secondary Years students. Students learnt about themselves, and each other, as they complete challenges across both land and water, including sailing, archery, rock climbing, rafting and giant stand up paddle boarding.
Also in Term 1, Year 6 students undertook their first great adventure of the year at the Colo River Outdoor Education Camp. Great fun was had by the students as they embarked on individual and group tasks such as paddling up the Colo River, setting up their own tents and completing a daring high ropes course. Teamwork was on display as students also worked together to prepare and share a delicious, healthy meal while friendly competition was inspired by outdoor games. There were many students participating in activities for the very first time during this excellent adventure. We thank Camp Somerset for this opportunity.
